i’m pulling this shot out of the archives because tonight Mike Hunchback is playing his last show with Night Birds.

in a few minutes, I’m going to go jump on a bus to NYC to catch the show. I love the music Night Birds make, but that’s not why I’m going. Night Birds is probably my favorite band to see live, and definitely my favorite band to shoot. The band is completely in character without dressing up like the Ramones, and they command complete control of the room while losing total control of their own bodies. The way mike plays guitar is the purest embodiment of that. I’ve got photos upon photos of mike on the floor soloing, mike snaking through the crowd, mike under a wave of people —- and perhaps most memorably to me —- mike seated atop my prostrate body at the ox, shredding his jag to hell and back.

I’m sure the new guitarist will be rad, and I cant wait to see them again in philly in a few months, but there’s no way I’m going to miss this show.
